High-Level Project Summary

For this project I decided to make use of my creativity, my taste for Art and Science, therefore I selected the Webb Origami Design Challenge. Based in the information and videos provided by NASA. I decided to create my own prototype of the James Webb space telescope, this is the next space science observatory, which seeks to explore, investigate and discover new knowledge for humanity. This telescope is of great importance, since it will be possible to observe various events and even objects that are distant from us, for example, the formation of galaxies, stars and planets.

Detailed Project Description

My project is a prototype of the space observatory, this was made in order to demostrate the design and technological wonder, which is being developed by many professional people and various space agencies around the world. However , even after the spaceapppschallenge is over, I would like to improve the protoype with more time, tranquility and with differents materials that are more resistant than paper, learn more about this large scale artifact and also encourage people to join the field of research, whether you are a person oriented in Art (creation) or Science (curiosity) about the universe.

To solve this challenge , in the first instance many people asked if you could use printed models and then fold, but since I did not have the resourses to do this and did not know if it was completly allowed , I decided to use one of the basics principles of origami: abstraction, and division into parts. In my mind i was like: "Ok, I don't have to print this model, what do i do?, I abstract it, divide it, and represent it with whatever is within my reach".

At the end of the day and when looking at my project I understood that art and science are no so disconnected, that sometimes the complex can be simplified to express a universal knowledge and understanding for anyone from anywhere in the world.

This video contributed in the resources section (NASA) was useful to understand the launch, operation, development, and countries involved in the construction of this artifact, in turn it helped to understand the technological immensity with which it is working, for an upcoming scientific breakthrough.

I liked the page since it is consistent with the information it provides, in turn, it has a fairly minimalist look that inspired me to keep my project and my team's name simple, but that it can convey tje ultimate goal.

Hackathon Journey

My experience would describe it as good, at first with uncertainty because I had never been in an instance like this, and everything happened very quickly, at first I did not know very well what to do but then you adapt and you fell the warmth, respect and help on the part of those ambassador and of the participants themselves who are also in a similar situation to oneself, as mentioned above it is the fist time that I participate in something like this and by chance I saw the ad on my social media and as a person who studied arte is currently studying physics, and the simple fact that NASA gave this oportunity to all kinds of people is incredible.

Regarding the approach in different chat rooms of the world this project that consists of the assembly of an origami, many people wanted to use a pre-established model that is printed, a valid perspective, but on my own I decided to take the time to develop, see the images and think about how I could put it together, although I would have liked to implement more things, due to different factors (time, materials, availability) it became more complex, but in the end I think I managed to put together a mini artifact that serves as an example to describe this observatory.

However, although I could not form a team, the experience was useful, to learn, for my own development and to understand the perspectives and differents interest.
