High-Level Project Summary

The solar energy is one of the most important renewable energies, but not everyone can access to the information in a easy way and with an app that can have installed on their phones. For that reason we decided to create an app "SunWidget", that included three functions. You can choose: an specific point on the map or and specific area, then you could select the time lap and the parameters in which you are interested. After that, the app make a call to the corresponding API and get the information, Finally this information is displayed through intuitive graphics for a user, helping to get the better performance from solar panels and have the best electrical efficiency.

Detailed Project Description

It should be said that in the database of the page there was a lot of technical information that the user probably would not know how to manipulate, such data was not presented iteratively and was very difficult to understand, so the way to implement it has been looking for a striking simple and effective application that seeks to visualize better that data.


It is important to promote the sustainability of resources in the world, protect the environment and improve the quality of human life, therefore, developing this application can improve the production and optimization of renewable energy, reducing pollutants and maintaining a close relationship with the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity.


Among the main programming languages ​​that were used to develop the application, we have selected javascript and typescript, in addition we choose React Native Framework on VisualStudioCode IDE among other tools inside there. In mean time, regarding the visual part to improve the user experience, a friendly interface has been created and attractive with the tool Adobe XD.

For this project we use the data provided by: use https://power.larc.nasa.gov/data-access-viewer/ , in this page you can access to a lot of information, but not everyone can understand the software in a efficient way, that why we decided to get the information and showed by an app, whit the app you will be able to have all the information that you consider important in your hands and in this way to be able to take advantage of the data to improve the energy production of your solar panels

Hackathon Journey

The journey was very exciting and interesting, all the team members were able to learn a lot of different information about how the Nasa obtain the data and how it can be used to resolve a real need. We decided to choose this challenge because all the members saw the potential of develop an app that not only helps users, but also the planet, by achieving better electrical efficiency through the use of renewable energy
