Solar Spot

High-Level Project Summary

Solar Sport App is a mobile application that is designed to assist users in tracking solar energy and finding suggested optimal locations, managing solar panels, predicting the optimal positions for the solar panels and (solar reflectors if any), solar panels needed before purchasing and installation. Solar Spot app offers a device called “Solar Irradiance and Power Monitoring Device” as an extra feature that is connected to the Solar Spot App via WiFi to allow the user to stream Real-Time data about the solar irradiance on the solar panel and power. This device can be installed at once. This solution has been done by utilizing emerging technologies such as IoT, VR and ML.

Detailed Project Description

Solar Sport App is a mobile application that is designed to assist users in tracking solar energy and finding suggested optimal locations, managing solar panels, predicting the optimal positions for the solar panels and (solar reflectors if any), solar panels needed before purchasing and installation. Solar Spot app offers a device called “Solar Irradiance and Power Monitoring Device” as an extra feature that is connected to the Solar Spot App via WiFi to allow the user to stream Real-Time data about the solar irradiance on the solar panel and power. This device can be installed at once on as many solar panels as the user wants. This solution has been done by utilizing emerging technologies such as IoT, VR and ML.

The Solar Spot App is Connected to NASA POWER APIs and successfully streamed the data for solar irradiance and weather indicators by hourly, daily and monthly.

The Solar Irradiance and Power Monitoring Device built using a microcontroller (MCU), voltage sensor, battery and charging circuit. . The device can work using the positive and negative cables from the solar panels to monitor the power. Also, the device can work in a rechargeable battery or via norml electrical cable.

Hackathon Journey

We start to group our team then choose the challenge that suits our interests wrt NASA and Saudi Arabia. Then we started to plan with the team to find a solution that can be applied to NASA and Saudi Arabia. We have decided to work on the solar energy sector due to the strong potential. We agreed that we are now in the age of digitization and utilizing the emerging technology for solar energy will improve the solution.
