RA APP

High-Level Project Summary

Ra App will help all the people interested in solar power around the world. The app will be friendly, so anyone can use, scientific or electric knowledge are not necessary. People will find the right spot to install a solar panel in order to get the maximum power from irradiance.Ra app will help us to find the best solar radiance in determinate coordinates using the smartphone GPS system, also an integrated compass app to find the best radiance spot, even when the cellphone service is not available. The opportunity of Ra App is the offline option, so you can open the app, search your desired place, and find it later.

Detailed Project Description

You are my sunshine is a very special challenge, if more people use solar panels, the uses of fossil energy will be less, and climate change will stop. Some people do not use solar panels because they think are difficult to install, and the solar panel companies charge a lot for the installation.


Ra App will help regular people to easily install solar panels in the best place using irradiance information from NASA.

Ra App will work in online and offline mode (This is our plus), no cellphone service required, because most of the time the people want to install solar panels in remote areas without electricity, and most of the time without cellphone service. We will use the smartphone compass and previously stored data in offline mode.

We use the data from https://power.larc.nasa.gov/ website and API to develop our beta project.

Hackathon Journey

The hackathon was a challenge itself, in 48 hours the team must share and unify ideas, but it was nice the teamwork we did.

The NASA resources such as the Power Project website https://power.larc.nasa.gov/ were something new and very impressive, the team is going to share this site with many people because it is so useful and free of charge.
