Now in its 10th year, NASA’s International Space Apps Challenge (otherwise known as Space Apps) is an international hackathon for coders, scientists, designers, storytellers, makers, builders, technologists, and others in cities around the world. During the Space Apps weekend, teams engage with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) free and open data to address real-world problems on Earth and in space. This year we invite you to participate on October 2-3, as part of an entirely virtual celebration of our 10th annual hackathon.
Traditionally, hackathons are technology development marathons that draw on the talents and initiative of bright-minded volunteers – such as software developers, engineers, technologists, designers, scientists, and anyone with a passion and desire to have an immediate impact on the world. Hackathons are open to anyone and are focused on developing real solutions to global challenges by the end of the event. For each year’s International Space Apps Challenge, NASA creates challenges, and we (the Global Organizing Team) work with Local Leads (you!) around the world to implement events where local teams work intensively to prototype solutions over the course of a 48-hour period.
Space Apps 2021 is completely virtual, with no in-person events taking place. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and in the interest of our global community’s health and safety, NASA and the Space Apps Global Organizing Team have made the difficult decision to make the 2021 hackathon an all-virtual event. No in-person events will be authorized for Space Apps 2021.

Schedule (All times Africa/Lagos)
Friday, September 24th
Designed for those interested in space science & exploration, this hackathon allows the next generation of scientists, technologists, designers and engineers to showcase their creativity and problem-solving skills through inspired collaboration and critical thinking.
As a part of Space Apps, participants are members of a global hackathon community that embraces collaboration across borders, sectors, and cultures to bring about paradigm-shifting innovation!
Space Apps is for everyone! This includes those who have never “hacked’ before! All passionate problem solvers are encouraged to join - students, experts, engineers, makers, artists, and storytellers. While some of our challenges are technical, others ask you to use your artistic skills, your business acumen, and your historical imaginations!
In other words, you do not need to be a coder or data expert to be part of Space Apps. In fact, the most diverse teams are often the most successful. If you are interested in participating or know someone who might please register here for Space Apps
