Our project consists of a video representing the journey that the Lucy satellite will take to visit one main belt asteroid and 7 of Jupiter’s trojans. We have tried to make it as realistic as possible so anyone who will watch the video gets a peek at how that journey will look like.
The project shows parts of the journey Lucy will take by visualizing the moments using blender to get a realistic look as if the person who watches is watching was there at the key moments we have represented in the video.
The main tool used to create the project is blender to create the renderings, we also used video editing software such as Shotcut to help us create the final look of the video.
All that is listed below inspired us into making our project!
Lucy satellite pictures helped us recreate a 3D model in blender.
Atlas space ship 3D model helped us with the moment when Lucy is being delivered to space https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/system/resources/gltf_files/2405_Atlas_V_401.glb
Vesta asteroid assisted in the representation of the trojan asteroids. https://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/detail/asteroid-vesta
Lucy mission overview helped us get a grasp of the whole mission. https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/lucy/overview/index
Lucy Deployment Animations inspired us for the start of the video. https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/details.cgi?aid=20346&button=recent
Earth 3D model also helped with the first moments in the video. https://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/detail/ear0xuu2
The audios below have been used throughout the video because these were all great moments but also to put in perspective the launch sequence before the flight to space.

The Space Apps experience was a very interesting one. We all learned so much about the mission and how it will impact our knowledge of the solar system creation and we were able to create a final project that makes us happy with the result we got.
We chose the Artfully Illuminated Asteroids challenge because we could express our creativity freely by making a very realistic experience of NASA’s Lucy mission.
Our approach to develop this project was first of all brainstorming together about what key moments we wanted to put in the video and how to put everything together for a seamless experience into how we thought the mission would look like.
Two challenges that we had to solve during the making were creating a realistic scenery and the music composition that is in the background of the video.
For the first challenge we created a cinematic journey that is easy to follow and gives the necessary information while showing the hard work that the NASA scientists and engineers have done with the Lucy mission.
As for the second challenge we didn't have previous knowledge about music composing and had no tools for it but using a virtual piano, audio editing tools and creativity we created a tune that goes well with the journey the Lucy satellite will take.
As a team we would like to thank our team leader Daniel Doci for his hard work into this project and for helping us all with anything we needed.

NASA’s Lucy Mission to the Trojan asteroids will survey eight asteroids in six independent orbits around the Sun to help unravel the history of the solar system. Your challenge is to illustrate the diversity Lucy will explore by creating a work of art in the medium of your choice, including, but not limited to painting, drawing, pottery, sculpture, 2D or 3D computer-generated products, music, film/video, written or spoken word, dance, or textile.
