High-Level Project Summary
In our Project, each of us wants to illustrate the Lucy’s journey according to our own imagination. We showed the route that Lucy will travel by using scratch, we made robots and devices which will assist Lucy during her journey, we made animation for Lucy and drew pictures that show the current state of space and the state after 12 years.

Detailed Project Description
Our team has five members and we are 3rd year students in our school. In our Project each of us wants to illustrate the Lucy’s journey according to our own imagination. We showed the route that Lucy will travel by using scratch, we made robots and devices which will assist Lucy during her journey, we made animation for Lucy and drew pictures that show the current state of space and the state after 12 years.
We want to present our works in order.

I made a device named "Lucy Tracking Device" which shows the route of Lucy’s journey. But firstly I developed an application by scratch that shows the orbit of Earth, Jupiter and Lucy. And also this application shows the location of trojan asteroids and signals when Lucy meets the asteroids in the planned years. Also this application shows the years and the name of asteroids to Lucy. I put this application into tracking device. In this way Lucy will never disappear and NASA will be able to follow Lucy during the journey.
Before developing my application, I visited the Lucy’s web pages and learned the route of Lucy, names of trojan asteroids. and the planned years for meeting of Lucy and asteroids.
If Lucy continues her journey after 2033, I hope she can meet unknown asteroids. or different pieces of space. So I can add new locations and new rules to my application for "Lucy Tracking Device".
When Lucy reaches at the last asteroids Patroclus and Menoetius in 2033, I will be 20 years old. I know that till that time I will learn more advanced programming languages and contributes to science.
You can find the video of my short presentation, the image of my tracking device, the screenshot of my code blocks and the final picture of route from my scratch project below. Also the codes of my scratch project is under the title Link to Final Project above.

I made a Robot and its name is Robot Pelican. It was designed to help and accompany with Lucy during the space mission which aims to reveal the evolution of solar system. The main mission of Robot Pelican is to gather the soil and rock samples with Lucy on the asteroids.
I want to give some details for the System Layout of Robot Pelican:
Robot Pelican gathers the oil and rock samples by its horn and analyze these materials via special device located in the inside of its body. According to analysis process, it decides to store them in the decomposition box if the samples gives scientific clues about solar system evolution.
Robot Pelican helps and warn Lucy about deep space and solar storm by sensing with its wings. It takes high resolution photos of space, solar system and surface of asteroids. with its camera in order to improve understanding of evolution. The communication with Lucy is provided by antenna located at the tail of Robot Pelican.
Robot Pelican was also designed to sense seismic activities by helping of its foots and legs while searching on the surface of asteroids.
Materials Used in Design of Robot Pelican are paper roll (1 small and 2 big roll), cardboard box (1 big and 1 small box) small plastic ball, wooden stick, felt, paper, colored papers, wire, plastic plate
I have some messages for the future:
I am Açelya Nil. I and my friends are currently 3rd year students. When Lucy come back after 12 years, we will be students at the university. We are curious students, therefore we are trying to search and understand everything. After 12 years, I am sure we will be same. But this time, we will be in the front line and realize our dreams and. designs and send them to lunar missions.
You can find the images of my robot Robot Pelican below.
Begüm
I made two devices for my Project. My first device is thermal camera. Why did I have create this device? Because, Lucy wants to find living organism or any living species in this Asteroid. How will it be possible? I have learned from one of the documentary series for Chernobyl, every materials emit radiation more or less. By this way, with the changes in temperature we may see the different materials. For example, a hot pipe or rock or lava or a little kitty will be in red-orange color but a piece of ice, iron or cold rock will be in blue -purple in color. Therefore, Thermal camera will be a very good auxiliary device for Lucy to collect lots of information about the asteroid.
My next device is voice recorder. I will record in all languages a kind of friendship’s message. I hope if there are living species there they will be also friendly. If not, Lucy will be in trouble. My voice recorder will be not only sharing our messages from the Earth but also record their voices to bring back when Lucy come back to the Earth.
You can find the images of devices and the video of me below.

I wanted to show the journey of Lucy by drawing pictures of space and stars that show the current state of space and the state after 12 years. Because I think that scientific researches must involve different branches of arts. So scientists can be inspired for huge researches like Lucy’s mission and like fossil Lucy.
You can find pictures which was painted by me that show the current state of space and the state after 12 years.

I produce a model of Lucy and also modelling the data transmission from Lucy to the Earth in a funny way . I used color papers, glue, sticks and colors to make my model. Making a model leads me to understand the structure of a space device and how it works. With this model I aim to help other children to understand the basis of space research. If I can imagine I want them to perceive how big the space is J
You can find the design of my model for Lucy and watch the funny video which was animated on toontastic by me for Lucy below.
We have some benefits thanks to this project. We learned that even this journey takes for a long time and obtaining the findings is very difficult, scientists don’t give up investigating and exploring.
When Lucy reaches at the last asteroids Patroclus and Menoetius in 2033, we will be 20 years old. Till that time we will not give up investigating and exploring our universe whatever occupation we have.
We want to show our friends, our parents, the parents of our friends, our teachers and you that we, the children will be the most important and the strongest assistants of Lucy during her journey. As we grow, we will follow her shares, findings from asteroids and contribute exploring the history of our solar system.
In our project, we use scratch, toontastic, our imagination, our painting abilities and handicraft skills.
Space Agency Data
We visithttp://lucy.swri.edu/ to learn more about Lucy for our Project.
We watched the lucy videos on https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/lucy/videos/index and they inspired us while making robots and paintings.
We used the photo of Orbit of Lucy on https://www.nasa.gov/image-feature/lucy-is-going-to-space in our scratch Project. And also we learned the names of throjan asteroid on Mission Targets on http://lucy.swri.edu/mission/Targets.html and on http://lucy.swri.edu/mission/Tour.html. We used the names of asteroids on scratch Project.
We visited https://2021.spaceappschallenge.org/challenges/statements/artfully-illuminated-asteroids/details.
Hackathon Journey
Our space Apps experience is very funny, inspiring and instructive.
While working on this Project, we have learned that it is very important to explore the history of our planet and the mystery of our solar system in order to make our future and the future of our universe more understandable and clearer. And also we learned that the name of ‘Lucy’ comes from a fossilized skeleton that was found in Ethiopia on Nov 24, 1974 by Donald Johanson and Tom Gray. Like this fossil Lucy, Lucy has a mission to explore the history of our Solar System.
Firstly we chose this challenge because it is the best suitable challenge for our ages.
Before we start our project, we decided our team name and the motto of our team. We wanted that our team name is identical with Lucy’s challenge’s name. We used our imagination with our own abilities and skills to illustrate the Lucy’s journey.
Our imaginary journey for Lucy is very funny but also very instructive.
During developing our Project , our class was on quarantine for two weeks and we had to gather on zoom in order to share our ideas. This was a bit sad and difficult for us. But on zoom we could tell our ideas to each other and develop this Project.
Now we would like to thank to our teachers because our teachers give us the chance of meeting with Lucy. And our moms and our dads the secret heroes lead us for our Project.
