First to the Trojans

High-Level Project Summary

We are elementary school students and we are inspired by space exploration and discovery. There are many ways to tell the story about NASA's Lucy mission by many different types of art, but some stories are told all the best through the painting and drawing. Our attempts to express the feelings or tell the story of inspiration and discovery are reflected in the drawing of a picture about Lucy's mission. We are sure that our work of art will be able to elicit an emotional response from other people and inspire them about asteroid exploration.

Detailed Project Description

Our team has prepared a drawing made by colored pencils. The central image of the drawing is Lucy, who is released from her hand by a girl as a generalized image of humanity. We’ve imagined Lucy as a butterfly - the metaphor for transformation and hope. The oldest insect wants to get acquainted with the oldest solar system bodies – Trojan asteroids. News of asteroids of various types is a unique knowledge to which a small butterfly aspires. It feels that this knowledge is like sunlight, like the great open space it is used to looking for. With our art project, we want to inspire children’s interest in space and space technologies. We've tried to tell the children a story in an understandable language, using images not of technical devices, but of images that children could understand. The demo video features a fascinating animation that sort of animates the picture and partially demonstrates the goals of this NASA's Lucy mission. The animation is produced by widely available software products - Scratch, Blender, Adobe Photoshop.

Hackathon Journey

Most of our team members are taking part in the NASA Space Apps Challenge hackathon for the first time. It's a very interesting and at the same time exciting experience for us. But it definitely teaches us and inspires. First of all, we've learned to work as a team. Together, there's nothing we can't do - there are friends who will always support and help! It’s really cool when everyone’s loaded with the same idea! All the members of our team are very creative: someone’s in an art school, someone’s singing, others're in 3-D design and coding. Together we have a super imagination. All of this inspired us to pick out such a creative challenge. We've solved all the difficulties together, considering each team member’s opinion. Step by step things worked out! It was a great experience and we want to do it again!
