Virtual Reality MUSEUM

High-Level Project Summary

NASA is all set for its upcoming 'Lucy`s Mission'.Lucy will explore a record-breaking number of asteroids, flying by one asteroid in the solar system's main belt and seven Trojan asteroids. In order to create awareness among people ,we developed a VIRTUAL REALITY MUSEUM which explains 'Lucy's Mission'.Since VR is highly in demand, we tried to develop the museum to make it interesting. We covered all those listed and future significant explorations of Lucy.

Detailed Project Description

To develop the project we used the Unity-3D software. We learnt to use this software along with the language C#.

It is a museum where we can roam about using arrow keys and get to know about Lucy and its mission. If one has a VR headset , on wearing it one finds himself in the world of asteroids. And, it actually feels as if we are walking on a asteroid. Dynamic models are deployed in the museum to clarify some of the concepts related to asteroids. So, the language C# has been used to make the models dynamic. Most of the videos containing the virtual solar system are in the Jupiter-rotating frame. Different format of resources are used to make the museum more fascinating for the viewers.

Benefit:

Be it a person of age eight or eighty , whoever wants to get some amount of knowledge about asteroids or trojan asteroids can visit this museum to have an virtually realistic experience .

Hope to achieve :

Through this project we want to create awareness among lay men in a fun and fascinating way.

Space Agency Data

We have used the pictures provided in the NASA `s image galleries. We have used videos and .gifs provided by NASA in its page. The articles in our museum contains the content provided by NASA on its page.

Hackathon Journey

As this was our first experience of hackathon, we had a great time learning lots of new things. We got introduced to many new people who were participating with us in the hackathon. Everyone had some unique and new ideas, which inspired us to think something new and something out of the box. Initially we got confused between two topics, but then we found "Artfully Illuminated Asteroids" to be something new, and unexplored.

Being game-lovers, we always wanted to do a project that involved the gaming environment in other words VIRTUAL REALITY.

We got to learn a lot of new things in a very short time. In fact ,we learnt the functioning of an entire software namely,"UNITY-3D"

in just a week. We learnt it from 'Google', 'YouTube' ,'Unity learning page'. Whenever we faced some difficulties, are seniors were there to help us.

We want to thank 'Aarush' mentors for encouraging us and supporting us. We want to thank the entire team of NASA SAC hackathon for giving a chance to participate here. Last but not the least, we want to thank our team and our parents, who where there beside throughout our hackathon journey.
