High-Level Project Summary
We use traditional Taiwanese shadow puppetry to explore Lucy's journey to the Trojan asteroids. Digital fabrication facilities such as laser cut and UV printers at our maker space are used to make Lucy, a shadow puppet spacecraft in our story. We also made 2D and 3 D computer-generated stage sets and props and turned it into a short film. This is a scientific connection between traditional art and craft and modern space technology. The artistic language of puppetry is used to illustrate Lucy's space travels.

Detailed Project Description
Our project use traditional Taiwanese shadow puppetry to tell the story of Lucy's exploration to the Trojan asteroids. We made objects in Lcuy's journey including the solar system, the stars, and the silk screen of the puppet stage using digital fabrication facilities at our maker space. Stage props were made using laser cut machines, UV printers, and computer softwares. This is made into a short film.
Our aim is to create a connection between traditional art and crafts, digital technology, space exploration. Shadow play puppetry is a theatrical performance that uses the shadow of puppets cast onto a screen. The result is a colorful and illuminated performance. Puppetry is a universal form of art that exist in many cultures, each with its own unique traditions and methods. We think it would be interesting to create a connection between puppetry art, digital fabrication, and space exploration.
