Stellar Stones

High-Level Project Summary

We made a multimedia project containing images, video, and a virtual gallery that showcases the diversity of the asteroids that Lucy will explore.

Detailed Project Description

Stellar Stones is a multimedia project that helps to visualize and understand the diversity of the trojan asteroids. The project consists of images, posters, a conceptual video, and a virtual exhibition. It allows one to have an idea of how these asteroids will look like in outer space.

First, we went through various space agency sources to get an idea about these asteroids. Then we made the 3d models of the asteroids in Blender. We used various images from the resource sites to texture the asteroids. After that we made a conceptual video in Premier pro, visualizing and showing the diversity of the asteroids. Then we made a virtual gallery that contains the 3d models of the asteroids, images, etc. We hope that this multimedia project will help others to get an idea of what Trojan Asteroids are, their diversity, importance in the solar system.

Space Agency Data

We used various forms of space agency data ranging from images, textures, videos to the lucy soundscape. For inspiration, we went to https://solarsystem.nasa.gov/solar-system/sun/overview/ to visualize the celestial bodies in 3d. We used images from https://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/lucy/images/index in the virtual exhibition. For the textures in the asteroids, we used images from https://nasa3d.arc.nasa.gov/images. We also used the Lucy soundscape project https://www.nasa.gov/lucy-soundscape in our concept video.

Hackathon Journey

We were excited to take on this challenge and to gain further insights about we went through various websites and sources. First, we needed to visualize the asteroids ourselves, for that we surfed through various NASA sites. After getting the brief idea we sat down to make our project and while making the project we encountered a number of difficulties. We overcame those and were able to achieve the outcome we desired. Myself and my teammate were heavily invested in this project, without him this project would have been impossible.
