Data to the people

High-Level Project Summary

We thought about different ideas and how to get people to get information about COVID-19. We have worked on an Android app that combines different data such as geolocation and socio-economic data. The solution is to provide information about the current situation of Covid-19 in the world, taking into account the number of the population to reduce the risk of infection, the number of infected and the number of deaths, the number of people who received the vaccine, and the location of the vaccine, and there is a penalty in the application specialized in AI in order to analyze data using algorithms and give results Tells if this area is in danger or not. So we are now providing an app that tell

Detailed Project Description

Our project it provides every possible information on Covid-19. It can show the number of infected individuals and deaths in a certain place. Also, it contains a counter that follows the number of doses administered to people. There are two maps in the application. One that shows the aerosol optical depth in the atmosphere as aerosols were proven to increase the probability of infection. The other one shows the weather across the United States as weather affects the spread of the virus, as well. Finally, our app includes some preventive measures written inside it. All you have to do is enter the location and the data (number of deaths, number of infected individuals, the number of residents, and population density) will show up. Our application uses the API of the World Health Organization to provide data on the US states using GPS and Google maps. We used android studio and the programming languages XML to insert the design and java for coding. Also, we used photoshop and illustrator. All this is in addition to the dedicated part of the program responsible for artificial intelligence that is connected to the GPS directly and warns the person before approaching any danger zone.

Space Agency Data

We used https://sedac.ciesin.columbia.edu/mapping/popest/covid-19/, to provide social and epidemiological data on the American states like the population density and the mortality rate. Furthermore, it contained a lot of information that will be used in our AI to predict new trends of the disease. Also, we used this https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/global-maps/MODAL2_M_AER_OD to find the map that presents information about the aerosol optical depth.

Hackathon Journey

Overall, it was a very fun experience with a lot of learning involved. We were very excited to dip our feet into this kind of experience. We were a team from the start and we all had our skillsets. There were two researchers, one programmer, and one designer in our team. We strived for variety in our skillsets and we found each other to be suitable team members. Covid-19: Calculate the Risk caught our attention while browsing through the challenges of Nasa space apps. It looked like a great opportunity to make something that can truly save lives and fight off the Covid-19 virus. Through this experience, we learned a lot about Covid-19 and the current state of events. We found important information about the statistics of related to the disease like its mortality rate, and different factors that can affect its spread. Our leader tasked us with work that was suitable for our skillsets. We did our tasks which were like building blocks that in the end led to the inevitable making of the application. Our team relied on asking for advice and acquiring knowledge in the necessary fields to finish the project. Our team would like to thank Mr. Mahmoud — a freelancer programmer who guided us through the process of making the app.
