Living Amid Pandemic

High-Level Project Summary

The prime motto of our project is to ensure the safety of people from this deadly pandemic. We intend to develop a mobile application that provides real-time data regarding Covid-19 in any specific area around the world. Though it’s still in a developmental phase, once the application is complete, it will show the active and average increment of covid cases in the user’s destination. The application will use AI technology to calculate the risk & suggest appropriate precautions to save oneself from catching the disease. Our application also allows its users, especially the low-class & middle-class working population, to register for rescue if they are facing hardships away from their homes.

Detailed Project Description

Traveling amid the pandemic is certainly difficult. However, we can’t completely avoid traveling; we are constantly commuting for various purposes. Even though it’s a necessity, traveling makes you more susceptible to Covid-19. Despite vaccination efforts, Covid is still rapidly spreading among people on local, national, as well as international levels.

Covid has taken more than millions of lives from around the globe. The day-to-day news and briefings regarding its effects startle us. So, we developed this interactive application with the hope of contributing what we can to help and prevent the demise of innocent souls.

The prime motto of our project is to ensure the safety of people from this deadly pandemic. We intend to develop a mobile application that provides real-time data regarding Covid-19 in any specific area as per the desire of a user. The application already provides real-time information regarding covid cases from around the world. Though it’s still in a developmental phase, once the application is complete, it will show the active covid cases and average increment of cases in the user’s destination. The application will use AI technology to calculate the risk and suggest appropriate precautions to save oneself from catching the disease: for example, reminders to use the hand sanitizer, appropriate masks to wear, the maximum number of human interactions in a day, etc as per the guidelines of WHO. Also, various FAQs and Mythbusters regarding the disease will help the users better understand both the risks and safety measures.

In a developing country like Nepal, many people stay away from their homes and even go for foreign employments to ensure better life of their families. So, periodic lockdowns highly affect the working lower-class and middle-class populations. Many people remain stuck in their workplace, unable to return home during the outbreak. To that end, our application allows its users to register for rescue if they are facing hardships away from their homes. Local and national governments can utilize those data to ensure the safe return of those people stuck around the country or even around the world.

To make the application more user-friendly, we are intending to include a ‘Chatbot’ with which users can openly interact about the symptoms if they have any. If those symptoms match the actual symptoms of Covid, the application will automatically suggest and provide users an option to register for the Covid test. In addition, the application will ask for the user’s location; if granted, it can notify the probable cause of Covid by analyzing the user’s travel history so the S/he can avoid or limit such activities in the future.

We developed our project seeking help from various resources and platforms. We used ‘Dart’ as a programming language. ‘Visual Studio Code’ was our text editor and ‘Github’ was the remote repository and host.

This project is our small effort to aid the world’s fight against Covid-19. Considering the inconvenience, we’ve also developed a website, so people can use the most comfortable option. Covid-19 pandemic is dangerous, but, together, we’ll get through this and reestablish the normal society as we knew beforehand. Till then, let’s wear our masks, maintain good hygiene, and prevent ourselves from this deadly pandemic.

Space Agency Data

In this project we have used a lot of resources as data is the most essential thing to complete this project. As our app gives information about the Covid-19 cases all around the globe the data displayed in our app/website is also derived form open source-space based data. Our project also gives information about the vaccination drives that is happening around the globe and also the vaccinated population all round the globe. To achieve this functionality we have used Nasa's data. The open source data provided by NASA and Space Apps partner space agencies really helped us to complete our project and we Team Vision are really grateful for that.

The links of some resources provided by NASA and Space Apps partner space agencies that we have used in our project or have planned to use in Future are given below:

Hackathon Journey

Going through the details of different challenges, we not only found the complexities of those different obstacles but it helped us realize our perspective about those challenges. Each of our teammates, sharing different viewpoints on those problems made us intact and even more comfortable approaching the challenges. This led to more healthy discussions and we got to learn so many new things. Our critical thinking and problem-solving skills along with technical skills were enhanced and pushed to the limits by the nuances of these challenges. With the boost obtained from working together in solving these challenges, we were forming a sense of belonging within ourselves that helped us bridge our ideas to present a solution to one of the challenges.

This pandemic has brought numerous problems to many people all around the world and our community has also been severely affected by it. One of the main challenges is the transmission of falsified data and figures about the pandemic and with our application, we disseminate information about the active cases and recoveries from all around the world. In addition, we have included different facts and safety measures for social awareness.

Sometimes during this pandemic, travel becomes mandatory to few people due to some emergencies. Oftentimes, they don't know about the number of COVID-19 cases in their destination and they are also left stranded by these hard times. To minimize this, we have included an application form which the victims can fill out and they will be reached out for help along with the information of the COVID hazard in that area.

We would like to thank NASA for this brilliant opportunity and we are also thankful to NASO for facilitating this event to share our ideas to tackle some of the contemporary challenges faced by our society and scientific community.
