High-Level Project Summary
The present project exposes the value of earth observation by analyzing two situations in which spatial data express great benefits for society. We have developed to complete the challenge a strategy inspired by value chains, in which we go through the different steps between observation and satellite data that are processed and end up yielding information that is used for the benefit of society. This solves the challenge because with this strategy we can measure the value of space data and specify it in three categories: economic, lives saved and environmental.the video is in the web page

Detailed Project Description
Since 2011, the arrival of sargassum waves has been a major concern for the Caribbean Sea coasts. In the case of the Dominican Republic, the solutions previously offered to this problem only take into account their arrival on the beaches and respond accordingly. This is the case of the AlgeaNova initiative, which develops floating marine nets. But what if it were possible to detect sargassum waves in the open sea and then collect them?
It is possible to detect these sargassum waves, thanks to the availability of satellite images that allow us to observe the trajectory of sargassum in the open sea. Some of the satellites that are following the trail are: Sentinel-2, sentinel-3, MODIS|Terra and MODIS|Aqua.
We also present how hurricane information is collected and finally we present our proposed strategy.
Space Agency Data
ESA:
We took data from ESA specifically from the document that is in the resources page, there we were informed about how the information was applied and how esat can become beneficial for human life, reading that document we were inspired to know what we wanted the focus of our project to be.
NASA:
We use nasa to search for satellite images of sargasso.
USGS:
Browsing the USGS we found a document that summarized a workshop on the importance of Earth Observation, here we could read about the value chains and applications of the data and show the value.
Hackathon Journey
1. How would you describe your Space Apps experience?
The space apps hackathon was fun, full of knowledge, the experience will remain in our life as a good memory.
2. What did you learn?
We learned about the scarcity of information and the importance of democratizing space,
3. What inspired your team to choose this challenge?
We were inspired to take on this challenge because not all of us had much experience in aerospace but we are enthusiastic, our group is mostly composed of 17-18 year olds, who were just entering this world so we decided to take on a challenge that we could handle and at the same time learn something from it.
4. What was your approach to developing this project?
We focus on the premise: if information has no value for the society in which it lives, it simply ceases to be important and, therefore, useful.
5. How did your team resolve setbacks and challenges?
We focused a lot on reading and reading and reading to get an idea of the different situations, when we had a setback we informed the team members and together we looked for a solution and also tried to get in touch with professionals in the area to ask for help.
Is there anyone you'd like to thank and why?
We would like to thank AEROINTEC for being such a good leader and answering our questions.
We would like to thank our mentor too
The camaraderie kept us at the forefront of the challenge.
