Prototype Hyper Planetary Lander

High-Level Project Summary

We developed a prototype of a 2D game with focus on exploration in Moon, extracting ores and getting information about them. The game provides a challenge while shows infomations about ores and researches, stimulating people to learn more about this area, showing them that science can be (it is) fun.

Detailed Project Description

It is a linear game, where you have to explore and collect ores and reach to the end, with the aim of stimulating people develop curiosity about exploration and research in space while they are having fun. We hope that this problem can satisfy the problem and bring more and more people to the science area.

For this project we used Unity as Game Engine and with a lot of hope and determination we finally reached in a state that we could call the game as a prototype.

HOW TO PLAY:

W - to go up

A - steer left

D - steer right

SPACE - collect ores

Space Agency Data

We put 3 ores in the game, and these ores are in a spread sheet of Significant Lunar Minerals. Here is the link of the data: https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/atoms/files/significant_lunar_minerals.pdf

Hackathon Journey

This is our first hackaton and wow, it is really hard. For us, all projects were really hard to make in a day, so with that in mind we choosed Planetary Lander, because it was a game and me (Paulo Renato de Carvalho Paschoal) and my friend (Rodrigo Kenji Ide) have some experience with game development, and that helped us a lot through the challenge.

Our approach was looking for the balance of having fun and learning at the same time, we want people to have fun while playing it, but we also want then to learn something from the game. Our biggest challenges were resolved with tons of research, we searched tons of videos teaching about game development in Unity, and that helped us a lot. Everybody in our team did a lot of job, but Rodrigo was THE guy. I don't know why but he wanted to rush this project really hard, so he did all the programming stuff for the game. I was feeling kind of bad with him because he did that all alone, but it was 3 am, he was determined and i was tired of doing stuff for this project. Thanks Rodrigo.
