MARVO - Planetary Lander Simulation Game

High-Level Project Summary

Just imagine how cool it would be if you could learn spacecraft landing and explore a whole new planet just by playing a 3D interactive game. Yes, that's what we have created. Introducing M.A.R.V.O. A complete 3D Interactive Mars Lander Game.One of the main issues with landing humans on Mars is figuring out how to slow down so the vehicle landing doesn't smash into the ground. In this game, the user has full control of the Lander. This game will help to understand the full landing process of the mars safely. After the landing, a user can experience how it feels to explore the real Mars environment.

Detailed Project Description

Users can see the tutorial and before starting the game there are two modes to experience the day and the night of mars. And the game starts with the lander where users can control the lander as well as the thrust power. They need to find a suitable place for a safe landing. Throughout the process, users will get some tips to land the craft safely on the surface. They need to land before the fuel runs out and after the successful landing, the user will be able to walk around the mars surface and explore some places. Users can experience mars gravity by jumping on the surface. And for easy exploration, a user can select some viewpoint like mountain view or surface view. And makes the exploring really interactive and fun. Also, they can experience the 2 moons of Mars. Users can see the information of some important places on Mars based on NASA’s data.

We want to make this game knowledgeable yet straightforward. So that people can get one step closer to understanding space, its laws, and reasons to explore and comprehend the universe as humans. The act of space exploration opens up endless possibilities to mankind, and successfully exploring and collecting data from Mars is one essential step towards that advancement. So, this is our take on connecting dots and inspiring mankind to understand and feel the beauty of Mars exploration, and passionately work towards it.


For MARVO, we chose Unity as our game engine. We used C# to develop the backend of the game. And for the Ui Ux designs, we use Adobe XD, Adobe Photoshop & illustrator. For character modification we use Blender and for rigging we use Mixamo. To make all of this work on a web browser, we used javascript to integrate MARVO, on our site.

For making this planetary landing simulation game we have to study and research a lot of articles, videos & data. We have analyzed a lot about Mars on Mars Exploration Program site to make the Mars environment as real as possible. We have to collect data about

  • how the sky looked on Martian surface both Day & Night
  • Mars moon
  • How an astronaut will walk, Run & Jump according to Martian Gravity
  • And Many more…


NASAMars habitat project inspires us a lot to make this project possible. Mars Exploration Program encourages us to make this simulation game for the world to experience the real Mars.

Hackathon Journey

For having an interest in space, we check NASA sites from time to time. After hearing about the Nasa space challenge 2021, we are very excited to participate in it. We form a team and decide to take the ‘challenge of Planetary lander video game’. Since we are interested in ‘Mars Habitat Project’ and wonder about the Mars exploration program, we are decided to take the challenge to make this simulation game for the world to experience the real Mars.

Thoughthis is our first time on  Nasa Space App Challenge, our teamwork & dedication are the only things that make this project possible. We resolve setbacks and challenges by discussing them with each other and try to find the best solution. Our mentor helps us a lot and guides us the right way.
