Awards & Nominations

Yukh Khas Lander has received the following awards and nominations. Way to go!

Global Nominee

Yukh Khas Lander

High-Level Project Summary

Our team has developed a video game that simulates a commercial transport mission from a space station to the landing platform of a settlement on the lunar surface, using a 3D model of a spacecraft that has a revolutionary fusion reactor as a power source, generating large amounts of energy and helium, being low environmental impact. The operation of future human colonies on the Moon imposes logistical challenges for transporting qualified personnel and settlement goods quickly, reliably and safely. The vision of a future in which humans live in space is a great motivation for new generations who can see in this type of applications the opportunity to be part of this exciting adventure.

Detailed Project Description

Yukh Khas Lander is a flight simulator to practice landing on the lunar surface, the user is located in a distant future where mankind has established colonies on the moon and the mission is to transport supplies between colonies, controlling a spacecraft and performing landing maneuvers.

The video game is hosted on a web server that can be accessed by any user anywhere in the world with internet access. At the beginning of the game you can see the spacecraft next to the space station. The command section for the manipulation of the spacecraft has been designed in a way that the control is simple and intuitive. The ship has several features  and maneuvers. The player is faced with the difficult task of maneuvering the thrusters and landing correctly on the platform without crashing and dying in the attempt.

Among its benefits are the influence that mobile applications have in the educational process of children driven by conditions that push boys and girls to spend more time on applications that contribute to the intellect and manual skills, this means an opportunity to reach them directly as they will have access from any device with internet.

We hope the user/player learning about the parts of the spacecraft will be interested in the science and engineering behind the operation of the spacecraft designed, also to be motivated to learn the sciences that study the universe and create awareness of the different known and unknown challenges that exist in outer space.

The tools used for the development of the game were unity software, blender, GIMP, C#, Javascript, HTML, CSS, WebAssembly, PHP.

Space Agency Data

For realization of project, our team used the following resources provided by NASA

-Photographic resources available in the NASA database to illustrate the reader on the introduction web page.

-Information from the Apollo 17 mission, also a 3D model of the Apollo 17 landing site was used as the lunar surface and base for the landing pads of the game, in the same way an image of Apollo 17 was used as the setting of the game .

-Photographic resources of Cassini-Huygens database to illustrate the reader (NASA/ESA).

-NASA Glenn Research Center Beginner´s Guide to Propulsion was used to introduce rocket propulsion theory.

Hackathon Journey

NASA Space Apps Challenge was an experience in which we learned to work as a team, being essential the confidence in every member for the growth of the project in just a few days. We also learned about the technology of new energy sources such as the Tokamak fusion reactor used for the power Yukh Khas Lander

The focus of the project is the dissemination of scientific and technological information through didactic tools and systems that allow children to become interested in science.

Our main sources of inspiration are:

-Apollo 11 audios where N. Armstrong. He narrated the names of the countries he watched  from spacecraft during the journey to the Moon, including Colombia.

-The images of the Cassini probe as a joint project between NASA and ESA.

-The Juno probe's images of Jupiter's surface and the discovery of its northern lights.

-The history and evolution of the technology and techniques that are giving us the opportunity of space exploration.

-The curiosity, the love of science and the motivation that can be injected into children to be part of the future by ensuring the continuity of the process of human space exploration.

We are very grateful to the staff of the AESS Unicauca group for the support and advice provided during this fantastic process that has left us with new friends, new learnings and a list of projects only possible with the new talents we have discovered.
