THE BEES - how to prevent their extinction

High-Level Project Summary

We decided to develop a project that, by connecting various data and satellites, manages to provide detailed information on the life and environment in which bees live. To solve this challenge we have thought of innovative system applicable to constellations of satellites that in real time can provide useful information to beekeepers and scientists. This solution we think is important because thanks to it is impossible to monitor the bees and to avoid their disappearance.

Detailed Project Description

Our project through a network of satellites provided by infrared radars and photocells succeeds to monitor bee colonies, the environment in which they live and risky areas where these insects risk extinction.

Infrared radars track both night and daytime movements of bee swarms in some area that through data already pre-recorded and provided by earth mappings you can also control the environment in which they live.

If a critical area is recorded for this insect, the log data is provided to scientists and beekeepers who will promptly act in the field neutralizing the problem.

With this project the extinction of the pi is almost completely avoided because being at the current movements and anomalies in the ground can be solved in a way timely problems.

Space Agency Data

In our project we took inspiration from four files provided by NASA that have inspired by our final idea and are:

  1. Biological diversity ecological forecasting
  2. Species distribution modelling data
  3. Honeybeenet
  4. Nighttime lights

Hackathon Journey

It was definitely an unique experience to be twenty in contact with a person who has an important role with scientific/spatial discovery. We have learned that behind each project must be a simple but brilliant idea that takes time and effort of a team or an individual.

As a team we thought that this challenge was the one that touches us the most as the disappearance of bees would also decree our end.

Each member of the team has put his commitment to best representing the project theoretically since we don't have the technical skills and knowledge to develop something more realistic.

Strangely enough, what you may think, we didn't have moments of arrest and we always managed to collaborate in the best way.

We would like to thank our math teacher who talked to us about this challenge and who motivated us at best to get involved and to endless areas and its collaborators.
