Life Saver

High-Level Project Summary

Team Eco Unicorns is working to save and alert people about the air pollution, heat, and Covid19 situation.Based on a request, the server retrieves information from the NASA earth database and JHU COVID19 dashboard. A script converts the he5 format data to CSV format and the app notifies the user based on location.Reflecting the risks at a place, RED, Yellow, or Green alerts are shown with suggestions. This app can serve 7 billion people on earth, that's why we call it Life Saver.

Detailed Project Description

Team Name: Eco Unicorns

Authentication & authenticity

A morning traveler from Dhaka may not take any extra measure to travel to Riyadh as both of the cities are on similar longitude. But the traveler may be fully unaware of the differences in the humidity between two cities and in the afternoon may find himself/herself inside a hospital (heaven forbids!) stroked by dehydration due to lack of drinking water. Each day, all around the world, people become ill and sick because of known and unknown reasons. Some of the reasons are so simple to tackle as like drinking a glass of water would save you from dehydration. But first of all, we have to get the alert notice about the reasons for illness, that we may take care of easily.

Yes, we are –Team Eco Unicorn - talking about a safe and healthy environment for humans mainly. Our app would alert general people about the air pollution, heat, CO, level of oxygen, possibility to be affected by Covid19, etc.

Empathy

People cannot refrain from traveling, regardless of the distances. But before going some places near or far, even staying or living in a place they need the authentic information about that place, to be sure about the safety measures especially those which are not out of our control at that moment. Some places are hot, some are cold, some places have too much CO emission, and some places have red alerts for COVID19. Climate sister cities are no longer similar, especially after the COVID19 pandemic is under consideration.

Our app would collect authentic live data from NASA, WHO, and the local geo agencies, and alert people, before traveling to, or staying in a particular place about the weather, climate, and pandemic situation so that people can take proper measures to counter them.

 Explain innovation

A server has been intrigued with this app, and when a user taps on any location, the app requests to the server. After receiving the request, the server retrieves information from the NASA earth database and the JHU COVID19 dashboard. Initially, the data have been found in he5 format; then a script is run to the server to convert the data to CSV format. After conversion, the server sent a specific location’s data to the app. Then the app notifies the user, about the state of the air and covid19. When the risk is high, the app shows RED alerts; YELLOW for medium, and for the safety case, the app shows GREEN alerts.

Impact

According to the worldometer the world has seen more than 23 million cases and 4.7 million deaths in the last 2 years. Data collected from WHO says that Air pollution kills an estimated 7 million each year. Out of 10, 9 people breathe air that exceeds limits containing high levels of pollutants. Affecting our lunges, many diseases like Stroke, Asthma, cancer are caused by pollution. From the NASA website we have collected data that shows that excessive heat caused, 8,081 heat-related deaths only in the United States.

We have retrieved data on carbon monoxide, temperature, and covid19 from the NASA earth data website and the JHU covid19 dashboard. We have shown that information to map a figure, so that users can view live updates and can be aware, from the app notification, to take protective measures.

For web apps, we use c# programming language. We have to use the asp.net framework and visual studio 2019 enterprise ide for development. For Android development, we use java as a programming language and android studio as an IDE.

Hackathon Journey

The Experience of NASA Space Apps is Memorable. For our team this complete journey was tremendous that cannot be good enough to describe. We learn a lot of new things from this journey. We are able to find ourselves in the new challenges given by NASA Space App Challenge. We the Team Eco-Unicorns inspired to choose this challenge from our interest to learn new things in various fields.

For developing the project our approach is good enough as we do pre-planning and collecting the data from the NASA Website and also collect the covid-19 data trying to save the planet and alert people about the covid-19 situation.

Our app would alert general people about the air pollution, heat, CO, level of oxygen, possibility to be affected by Covid19.

I want to thank all of my team members including me as we all worked hard for this NASA Space App Challenge.
