Green Space

High-Level Project Summary

Greenhouse gases are having a growing impact around the world and we have done little to counter these changes. With our APP "Green Space" we can alert citizens around the world about the increase in temperature in the place where they are currently by geolocation of their cell phones and project scenarios of 10 or 20 years of what the temperature could be in the where they are and what problems these changes would bring if nothing is done about it.This application will also provide information on what to do to counteract these changes such as planting trees, increasing green areas, recycling waste, tips to reject organic waste, as well as inorganic waste.

Detailed Project Description

Our APP uses the geolocation of mobile phones to inform in real time the state of the climate and raise awareness through future projections of the impact on their societies.

They just have to download the APP on their cell phones, activate their geolocation and make the query, the application will give you a current result and projections, it will also tell you what you have to do to generate this change.

With our solution (prototype) we seek that every person in the world understands the importance of taking care of the place where they live, thinking about future generations, planting trees and recycling.

Space Agency Data

Some years ago I found an article that talked about climate change and how NASA through satellite observation systems could project these changes, however, as a citizen I did not know what was happening in my country about the climate, this led me to do more research and read about NASA Earth Observations (NEO) and Meteomatics

In order to address socioeconomic developments, we are taking into account Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSP) (O'Neill et al., 2014). Where the five main climatic scenarios differ. The greatest advantage of using SSPs is incorporating both uncertainties in climate change outcomes and socio-economic pathways with respect to adaptation and mitigation strategies. Socio-economic and environmental challenges can be shown in two axes. The (X) axis represents the challenges related to adaptation and the (Y) axis represents the mitigation challenges.

The term "socio-economic" encompasses demographic, political, social, cultural, institutional, lifestyle, economic and technological aspects, as well as human-induced services such as water quality, biodiversity, and the form and function of ecosystems. (O'Neill et al., 2014)

Hackathon Journey

Our experience in the Space Apps has been very pleasant and comfortable, we met many people with different points of view and even though our team is small we were able to share experiences with other teams.

What inspired us to take this challenge was a trip we took at the beginning of years, we decided to drive to the north of my country and I was greatly surprised to see so much free space and no vegetation, however, there were many bags trapped between dead trees, this led my team to choose this challenge and see how we can contribute to improve people's attitudes in improving the place where we live.

We are very grateful to Jose Ostolaza who has given us all his support on this trip.
