No Heat

High-Level Project Summary

Our project arose from the necessity to find truthful news and information about climate change and its implications since that data is often confusing and uninteresting for most people. Our website will incorporate data tools offered by the Sentinel 6 satellite that maps sea-level anomalies in real-time to alert coastal populations that could be affected by it.We'll also count on relevant news channels to broadcast quality and accessible information. Our differential is global empathy, seeing as people around the world will be able to meet other people who were, unfortunately, victims of the consequences of global warming. That would also allow anyone to know inspiring stories of anyone

Detailed Project Description

What is it?

"No Heat" is a project that aims to develop a website whose function would be to provide warnings about the potential impacts of climate change, focusing on sea-level rise and counting with the satellite Sentinel 6 as the main source of data. It also includes orientations about how to mitigate these potential impacts, in addition to bringing secure information related to global warming straightforwardly and intuitively, in an attempt to keep the population informed about the matter at hand, avoid fake news and pseudosciences, which are easily found on the internet.

How?

The Sentinel 6 satellite was developed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the European Space Agency (ESA) to measure the sea-level anomaly from space with precision and reliability. Thus, our team has the objective of developing a website that provides warnings and information about climate change and sea-level changes, alongside their possible consequences, sp as to bring orientations and mitigation measures.

Why?

According to the United Nations (UN), Small Island Developing States (SIDS) could become uninhabitable due to climate change, since these islands have their marine resources and their biodiversity exposed to extreme climatic events. Research indicates that the atoll islands are at risk of being submerged until the end of the century. Therefore, we, from the No Heat team, have raised our awareness about these countries' fights and have gotten motivated to develop this project, bringing warnings and orientations about the possible impacts of global warming in these places.

The website also incorporates news from reliable sources in order to democratize information access, because our team believes that clarifying information is crucial for people to comprehend and share that knowledge. That is, divulging causes more information to be disclosed.

Hackathon Journey

We had difficulty at the beginning in relation to the data, we were not knowing to be assertive in what to use of data, we could not be clear with the first mentors, which led to a mentoring that confused our mind and we were lost much of the first day

But over time the idea was flowing and we were able to make the idea clearer to present to the mentors and we were able to develop better on the first day.

In the second, the pitch video was a mess but in the end everyone enjoyed it and the event was tiring but it was very worthwhile.
