High-Level Project Summary
Our project ''Synthetic Aperture Radar'' aims at educating and raising awareness to the public aboutremote sensing and especially about SAR: uses and how it is beneficial to society, this way we arepresenting information in a very visual, fun and understanding way, so anyone who views our projectcan understand. The project comprises the core principles of SAR and how it is beneficial to solvingmany of our major problems. The SAR method has been proven useful in many situations; SAR has takenremote sensing to the next level and is readily available to help humanity. We are helping to inspire andshare knowledge on these technologies so everyone can understand and interact with them.

Detailed Project Description
How we addressed this challenge
The challenge we had to confront is to make awareness and understanding to the public about Synthetic Aperture Radar technology, Its uses, benefits and how it helps humanity. We had to present knowledge in a visual, fun, social, impacting and understandable way for everyone.
Addressing this challenge we have created a video for us to explain Synthetic Aperture Radar and what Synthetic Aperture Radar can do, its benefits, its uses, how it works and how advanced it is compared to other remote sensors. Presenting all sharable information with our viewers to interact and understand them little by little.
Introduction
To make things clear for our viewers the main subject we explained is Synthetic Aperture Radar. They were explained in a way to make the best point out to introduce and make sense for the viewer as it is our main priority. What is Synthetic Aperture Radar? What is remote sensing? What is a satellite orbit? We have covered these first questions that would pop into our viewer’s minds.
Radars
Before trying to understand Synthetic Aperture Radar the viewer have to first understand what Radar is. What are wavelengths used in SAR? What are wavelength bands? How is wavelength useful? What is resolution?
Properties of SAR
As there are many unique properties to Synthetic Aperture Radar, the frequent features that are used to collect data are polarization, wavelength, interferometry and more are covered in our project. How these are useful, engaged and helpful to data collection and data interpretation.
Data and societal benefits of SAR
Explaining how data is gathered and features of SAR data is an essential part of understanding the information about the benefits of SAR. The first question that would pop into anyone’s mind is What are the uses of SAR? What can it do for us? What can SAR do for society? These doubts about benefits are covered in our project so the viewer can know some of the uses of SAR.
Benefits and what we hope to achieve from our project
The 5-minute video for our project has been created so the viewer can have this information, understand them and share them when possible, to make awareness of the mass public of these technologies, how these work and what they can do for us. Every second of this video is a benefit for you viewer to get to understand and cherish with all of the knowledge and with the thought of knowing that is this technology can help humanity and mother earth to live peacefully for a long time, this is an achievement we cannot dismiss. We hope you enjoy our project all from start to end.
Tools and websites we used
The main editing software we used is “Adobe After Effects” for editing of the project video and all information is gathered from the space agencies that host this year’s hackathon, i.e. NASA, ESA, CSA, JAXA
Space Agency Data
We used the information provided on the resource page of the challenge.
NASA: most of the information, data, images and videos were taken from NASA to help us continue our project, and the virtual Bootcamp videos helped us in guiding us through this hackathon step-by-step.
ESA: animations images and videos were used from ESA.
These resources helped us to guide through and helped us make a successful project with confidence and trust.
Hackathon Journey
NASA space apps was a really good experience. It was very educational and we got the opportunity to work with our friends and have a fun and enjoyable time... As a team, we had the opportunity to improve our knowledge of remote sensing, SAR and how space agencies are using it for the betterment of humanity in general. We learned a lot of things that we had no idea about. We chose this challenge because we wanted to educate the public about technology that many people do not know. We all worked as a team to make this project where everyone played a major role in this project. We had a few challenges like time management to face but somehow we all managed to resolve them as a team and we would like to thank NASA and SEDS Sri Lanka for giving us this wonderful opportunity.
