WHAT'SAR-DAN

High-Level Project Summary

WHAT'SAR-DAN is a video narration that comprehensive examination of Synthetic-Aperture Radar. SAR mission load meets the need for satellite imagery in all weather conditions day and night. The Synthetic-Aperture Radar (SAR) technique is a method used to obtain a higher resolution image with a smaller antenna length. WHAT’SAR-DAN raises expectations to demonstrate to society ‘What is Sar?’, ‘What are the services of SAR?’ and ‘How can we advance the use of SAR data?’ questions answers. These obtained data can make important contributions to scientific research in the near future discoveries.

Detailed Project Description

How We Addressed and Developed This Challenge

Scientific observations are outstandingly significant for a human being to survive on a planet. These scientific observations are generally done by satellites in space. SAR is a reconnaissance and observation satellite. The reconnaissance and observation satellites have an enormous impact on some changes on the planet, which are sudden weather condition changes, floods, earthquakes, forest fires, etc. For that matter, we decided to make a video narration 'WHAT'SAR-DAN'. It aims to explain to people 'How does the SAR work?'  and 'What are the opportunities obtained from SAR technique?'.

  1. We used PowToon as animation software for our demo video.
  2. We utilized Canva as our online design and publishing tool for the project "WHATS'SAR-DAN".
  3. Finally, we wielded PicsArt and iMovie for editing.

Space Agency Data

How and Which Space Agency Data We Used

In the first place, we utilized The National Aeronautics and Space Administration(NASA). We examined the images and the articles that NASA has shared on its website. We also got information from Aselsan, which is a company of Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, to understand the working principle of the satellites. Independently of these, we examined the importance of the system through the observations shared and reported by ICEYE(Microsatellite Manufacturing Company). This Infos inspired us to make a video narration with the visual resources that we searched for.

Hackathon Journey

Our Space Apps Experience

Our Hackathon journey was completely incredible! Working with a team and learning the mysterious aspects of space and satellites is one of the best experiences in our lives as a team 'DANDAN'. Researching and reading about these satellites definitely amazed us. We developed our project by thinking about how we can convey the importance of SAR to people in a different and easy way. Actually, we did not have a challenging process but as all teams we had a few setbacks like to forget saving the documents. However, we got through them all with our patience and teamwork. First of all, we would like to thank NASA and Space Apps Challenge volunteers then we'd thank our teachers for meeting us with this amazing organization.
