SAR: qu’est-ce que c’est?

High-Level Project Summary

In our project we tried explaining what is SAR so that anyone, even little children, can understand. Through this process we managed to develop our computing skills. Moreover, we obtained much knowledge about animation development and about SAR technology. We used these skills in order to create a presentation and afterwards a video. We explain graphically and colourfully how SAR works.

Detailed Project Description

We looked out all the available projects, until we found this project concerning S.A.R. which was closer to our interests. Not only did we do some research on our own, but we also used the references that Nasa Space Apps Challenge committee provided us with. Then, we created a shared google powerpoint and we added there the information we had found, and then we split the responsibilities so each one of us could do something different so that we could work all at once. We concluded in the powerpoint all the information that we thought was necessary and in addition we used "Scratch" to create some animations in order to make a video which would be easily understanable by everyone. After creating the presentation we recorded ourselves explaining everything that we had already written in the powerpoint and then one of us collected all the recordings and created the video, and another one wrote the subtitles underneath our video.

Space Agency Data

At first, we looked at the available resources and references given to us by the Nasa Space Apps Challenge concerning our chosen project. Then, we did some research on Google, to find more information about SAR. We looked into published data of ESA (European Space Agency). Also, we learnt more about our topic by using a file of the European Union Committee on Global Monitoring for Environment and Security. Furthermore, we watched videos made by experts and specialists who explained the differences between SAR and other radars.

Hackathon Journey

Our Space Apps experience was incredible. We learned so many things concerning the main concept of our project, which was the SAR, but we also obtain knowledge of essense about more general things. Our team was inspired to choose this challenge both from our interests, which are very similar, and from the fact that we are students from all over Greece and a project like a video seemed like a task that we could handle more easily from distance. Firstly we tried to understand what is SAR and why it is important. And then we started creating a presentation and many animations about it, that in the end we concluded in a video, after we had our voices recorded to play in the back. The only setback that we had was the fact that we were not actually together to follow through this project. However, that did not hampered us from completing it. We would like to thank the Nasa Space Apps Challenge committe for giving us the opportunity to participate in such a challenge and for providing us with some really useful references.
