SYNTHETIC APERTURE RADAR - For the first time

High-Level Project Summary

To disseminate knowledge of one of the most important technologies for image recording that NASA uses, we created a video according to the instructions of the Challenge "WHAT ON EARTH IS SYNTHETIC APERTURE RADAR?".The video was recorded in Portuguese PT and has English subtitles.By being publicly disclosed on You Tube, every citizen who wants to know a little more about this technology can have access to the video created by the team.

Detailed Project Description

The video created by the NCBrasil team and published on Youtube for public access brings to the population knowledge about some of the benefits of the SYNTHETIC APERTURE RADAR technology, its functionality and application for the most diverse purposes.

Through this video prepared on the Canva platform and whose data was fundamentally extracted from the websites https://earthdata.nasa.gov/ and https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/ we believe we have fulfilled one of the most honorable attitudes of a citizen, we share knowledge.

Space Agency Data

To show the real use of SAR technology, we used images taken from NASA missions in the Manaus region of Brazil in South America were acquired by the Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C and the X-band Synthetic Aperture Radar aboard the space shuttle Endeavor, available at https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/images/space-radar-image-of-manaus-brazil-2.

We also used images from the website https://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/images/3581/topography-of-south-america to exemplify the use of SAR technology in topography mapping, and the table available at https://earthdata.nasa.gov/learn/backgrounders/what-is-sar to show the variety of bands and the applicability of each.

Hackathon Journey

The Hackathon Journey experience that our team lived will surely stay in our memories for a lifetime.

We would like to especially thank the mentors Renata Sakamoto and Luis Poletti and the facilitator Adriano Spanhol for all their dedication and affection. We appreciate that we had these amazing people with us on our journey.
