High-Level Project Summary

It's 9:00 am on Friday 24th of September and we've just started to talk about the hackathon. During the day we kept on talking, and until late we decided to accept the challenge and discover "What on Earth is SAR?". 11:05 pm on the same day we distributed the work by setting roles and tasks. On Sunday 26th Kenneth sends the info to Marcos, and Marcos work on the script, and with three days of delay he delivers it. Friday 1st of October and rushing Josué starts to work on searching resources and making the video while Víctor records the narration, and Gabriel works on the captions. Saturday 2nd 3:00 pm, we had an online meeting to see the demo and share final thoughts, save and deliver! :)

Detailed Project Description

The NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) is constantly working on projects to change the way we see and experience the world, but, do you have at least an idea on what are they working at?

This video and project is to change that. The world needs to know what's going on and how important and beneficial it is to our lives, our cities, our contries, our world.

We hope to 1. Informate and share what we've learned. 2. Awake a community of people who loves to learn day by day, loves to share and loves to enrich the people's minds.

The software we used to create and edit the video was iMovie.

Space Agency Data

Most of the information that was used for our video was based on official NASA information. We used NASA resources to find out that it was a synthetic aperture radar, we also use resources to find out in which areas of science it is used and how it works.

The subject interested us very much after doing a quick search on the internet since it had so many applications and we believe that we can explain it in the best way.

Hackathon Journey

  • Josue Martinez: Participating in the hackathon provided me with a very enjoyable experience, so much so that I would like to participate for years to come. Taking a topic about the universe, which is something new for me, fills me with learning during the process in which I was carrying out the project, it also made me curious to know more about what is outside of our planet.

  • Víctor Batres: “It has been a beautiful experience. I learned to organize my time, I met new friends, I learned something new and above all, I learned something for life. I've always loved voice overs, but this project inspired me to give more of myself. Reading it was very easy, the challenge was to give a clear and undertandable voice.

  • Kenneth Solís: I have really learned to improve my information search method using various search engines to find everything that is possible on the internet. Because most of the correct and official information is in English, I practiced the language. I learned more about these projects than they help us in various fields of science.

  • Marcos Cruz: When I saw the SpaceApps Challenge announcement, I didn't know what it was, but I knew that I had and I wanted to participate. This experiencie teched me responsibility, because being on my last weeks of my Senior year I did have a lot of work to do, but once committed with the team to work, I couldn't let them down; so responsiblity is one thing I learned and earned on this project. By the other hand, I didn't have idea about SAR, didn't even knew about it's existency, and now I do have at least an idea about how does it work and how beneficial it is to the science fields; now I wanna learn more about this kinda projects and how to use them in the practical life.

  • Gabriel Hernández: It was interesting to discover how the synthetic aperture radar works and why it is so important for humanity and in turn to be able to inform more people of its importance.
