What on Earth is Synthetic Aperture Radar Video

High-Level Project Summary

Our project consisted of producing a video explaining SAR technology and its positive impact on the community. Our video covers the definition of SAR, the characteristics and explains how data is received from the earth's surface. Also, the type of measurements and applications that can be performed using SAR data. The objective is to make the community aware of the importance of using satellite data for the benefit of our environment and wildlife.

Detailed Project Description

Our project consists of making a video of 2 to 5 minutes explaining what is the synthetic aperture radar (SAR).

This video was made with images and animations obtained through the resources of NASA and ESA. The video contemplates the definition and characteristics of the SAR, how the sensor works and how it collects the energy taken from the earth and then maps it. In addition, projects are shown that used SAR data to benefit communities and the environment through innovative solutions.

Space Agency Data

We use data from earthdata.nasa, serveglobal, appliedsciences.nasa

Resources such as NISAR videos and animations.

SAR Handbook: Comprehensive Methodologies for Forest Monitoring and Biomass Estimation

Hackathon Journey

We describe the experience as very exciting and fun because we learned to work as a team with unknown people. But with a lot of desire to learn and with different skills, which helped us to complete this challenge. In addition, we had the opportunity to learn about SAR technology that was unknown to all of us. We knew about satellite data but we did not know how it is obtained with SAR. Our focus was on video animations so that they are eye-catching and not boring towards the audience and of course, we focused on being as precise as possible explaining the subject. The setbacks we had were few, one of them the illness of a colleague, which we approached with great empathy and responsibility. Each one collaborated in many sections of the challenge, this allowed to carry out its development. We would like to thank the mentors of each challenge, NASA, Corpcity and the ambassadors who were attentive to the chat consultations.
