What on earth are synthetic aperture radars

High-Level Project Summary

In this project we did a video not longer than 5 minutes explaining the basics of synthetic aperture radar in Amharic which is the official language of Ethiopia . we used simple and understandable terms to better explain the topic. It is very crucial that the wider public understands what synthetic aperture radar is for them to make use of the data it provides. We made a power point presentation with subtitles in English .

Detailed Project Description

Our project briefly discusses what synthetic apertures are, how they work and how then can benefit our community. With this project we hope to educate our society and our country how this technology can change our lives in a way we didn't know it could. Our project's main goal is to explain synthetic aperture radar to a non expert in our native language . We were able to explain it in a very understandable manner by using Microsoft's PowerPoint. It came in handy with different animation and transitions we used in the video. For the pictures and the short video we used the resources provided to us in the challenge and we gave them credit in the description of our video.

Space Agency Data

https://earthdata.nasa.gov/learn/backgrounders/what-is-sar. This website was helpful in the understanding of what SARs are and how they worked

https://nisar.jpl.nasa.gov/system/documents/files/26_NISAR_FINAL_9-6-19.pdf -from this pdf we were able to get pictures we could use

https://nisar.jpl.nasa.gov/resources/89/global-biomass-mapping-by-nisar/

https://nisar.jpl.nasa.gov/resources/multimedia -from this source we were able to get a short video that helped us in our project

-From both videos we were able to grasp how SARs are now being in demand and how the international space society is focusing on them.

Generally these are the resources we used. They came in handy in giving us insights on what SARs actually are, how they work, in what ways then can help our world. We were also able to get the images we used from the above listed resources and this helped with the visualization of our video.

Hackathon Journey

We first choose this challenge because we understood that it was the most essential to our country. After deciding on the challenge we all had different ideas on how to approach it and it was a madhouse . We eventually decided to do a power point presentation and we could try to explain what is a very complex topic to the public in a simple and easy way. We came across several obstacles from balancing the ideas of 6 different people to a very agonizing internet connection but because our goals were set we were able to successfully finish our project . This hackathon has been an amzing experience we all throughly enjoyed . We learned to find a smoth and inclusive way to work with our teammates in this creative journey . We would like to thank our physics instructors for providing us with this opportunity and being very supportive throughout this hackathon.
