An Easy Introduction to Synthetic Aperture Radar

High-Level Project Summary

We developed a four and a half minute video consisting of a brief and accurate showcase of how Synthetic Aperture Radar works, not only utilizing a simple language, but also showing animations which are a really effective way of visualizing the concepts approached.

Detailed Project Description

There are some bases which give support to our project. These are, in first place, the transformation of a great quantity of information (how SAR works, use of different wavelengths, Doppler effect, etc) into a brief video of 4 and a half minutes which is also aimed for any kind of public.

In second place, the management of different tools that were extremely useful for the video editing, such as Sony Vegas Pro 16, Adobe Photoshop and Pixlr; in addition to the open data from various space agencies which were crucial for the development of the project.

Furthermore, the goal which we expected to achieve while developing this project was gaining the ability to absorb and transmit knowledge to as many people as we could. After all, anyone could come up with the next revolutionary idea.

Space Agency Data

We developed this project using open data from various space agencies including NASA from the United States, ESA from Europe, JAXA from Japan and CONAE from Argentina.

Obtaining information directly from those who make all the projects that we ever hear about come true every day, really inspired us and was a fundamental pillar for the development of our project.

Hackathon Journey

Our Space Apps experience is not easy to describe. With this project, we were able to acquire and develop plenty of different abilities, such as research, writing, video-making, and the understanding of complex topics like radar technologies, electromagnetic pulses and others.

What inspired us to choose specifically this challenge was the spark of curiosity which we had after realizing the impact that this kind of technology could have in the future. We were not focused on competing, we were focused on something more important, to learn and try to help someone else to do the same.

We thank everyone who supported us, and we assure that we are more than excited to take part next year!
