the savior | SAR technology

High-Level Project Summary

Our idea is to create a video. The video is trying to solve the problem of not knowing many people about SAR technology, its importance, and its various features, which help us through the images it captures and its data. So in the video, We made sure to make the information more accessible for non-experts to understand SAR technology using a creative and simple way.

Detailed Project Description

Problem:

We are trying to solve the problem of not knowing many people about SAR, its importance, and its various features, which help us through the images it captures and its data. Another problem is the difficulty of understanding scientific concepts, which are difficult for non-experts to understand. Our goal in this challenge is to help people learn more about Synthetic Aperture Radar ( SAR) and the importance of the data collected by the satellite and provide them with sources that help them explore space and understand complex scientific concepts.

Our solution:

The challenge needs to make a video to explain " what is SAR and how can SAR data impact positively on my community" so we will make a video and we focused on some points in it.

First, we talked about The NASA-ISRO SAR (NISAR) in the video. NISAR is the first satellite mission to collect radar data in two microwave bandwidth regions, called the L-band and the S-band, to measure changes in our planet's surface less than a centimeter across. NISAR is planned to launch in early 2023 in India. So when the viewer heard about this news, he will be curious to know more about SAR and that is our goal.

We used storytelling to be the main way in our video to introduce SAR and some effects & transitions to make the viewer more exciting when he sees the video.

In the last video, we made a competition. the competition is to do a search on "what is remote sensing and what is used for?" and make a video in one minute to explain the concept and the best person will explain it using simple way, he will win a prize so we will encourage the viewers to explore, search and know more about Space.

Value Proposition:

  • The viewer will know the following:
  1. what is SAR and its history?
  2. The importance of SAR data?
  3. What can SAR do?
  4. What is Interferometric synthetic aperture radar "InSAR"?
  5. What are bands and the difference between them?
  6. How does the SAR data impact positively society?
  • Our video encourages the viewer to search and explore the space by competition that needs to making a one-minute video to explain a concept related to the space.
  • During the competition, the Participants will improve some skills like searching and presentation skills.

Future plans:

  • We will make a website that helps people to explore the space using our idea in the videos and we will make a point system that when you read more about space and finish all questions that related to the article, you will win points
  • We will make competitions on the site to help people use the information they learned from the site.
  • In case of winning, you will win points and some prizes.
  • When the participants increase the points, they can use the points to meet some NASA experts to ask questions and learn more from them

used tools:

  • Adobe premiere
  • Adobe Audition
  • Adobe photoshop
  • canvas
  • Notion

Space Agency Data

We used most of the data we needed from the NASA website Because we're sure that NASA data is reliable so we used it in the video.

Hackathon Journey

We learned more from the hackathon such as how can we work together, the importance of taking responsibility. Research and presentation skills were developed and many other things and I hope to repeat this journey again. During our journey and preparing for the final project, we asked many people for help and we want to thank our mentors for their time and efforts. Moreover, we want to thank the Nasa space apps Cairo team for organizing this hackathon, solving all our technical issues, and answering all our questions.
