Explaining what Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is to the public

High-Level Project Summary

The main purpose of the radar system is to detect objects or objects and to determine their distance. However, an even more advanced Radar System is available today. Synthetic Aperture Radar, or SAR. SAR is a type of active data collection where a sensor produces its own energy and then records the amount of that energy reflected back after interacting with the Earth. NISAR’s orbiting radars will image and track subtle movement of the Earth’s land and its sea ice, and even provide information about what is happening below the surface. NISAR will also provide information on crop area and forest biomass over time and with enough detail to reveal changes on field scales.

Detailed Project Description

Our challenge is to tell basically and clearly what synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is to the public. So, for explain waht SAR is to the public we created a video around 3 minutes. We all hope that thanks to our video the public can understand what SAR is more cleary. While we are making our video we arrenge a lot of meetings and use some sites for making videos.

Space Agency Data

Since we know that NASA data is reliable source in our project, we mostly used NASA data because we don't want to misinform the public. While preparing information for our project, we first read and analyzed the resources that NASA shared with us, and then we made a summary to explain the information that is important from the information we read to the public.

Hackathon Journey

We started to hackathon with the livestreams that going to inform us. Before that, we already had some meetings with the other team members. We already had filled some papers full of questions. Hackathon lasted the whole weekend. We all woke up at 8 a.m. and arrange meetings while participating events and livestreams. It was pretty hard to do both. Doing the project online was pretty tough but at the same time it was very pleasent. Trying to finish this project untill midnight made us really dedicate to the project. To plan our day was too complex. We only gave breaks to eat. Everybody chose a role for the project and everybody did their job pretty well. At the end of the day, Hackathon was pretty challenging and delightful at the same time.
