What is a Synthetic Aperture Radar?

High-Level Project Summary

We developed a video where we explain in a clear and simple way how it works and what synthetic aperture radar is. This is important because it helps to make the information available to everyone and to understand what exactly this radar is and what it can provide to all of us as a community. This video will explain the synthetic aperture radar measurement methods, a brief description of it, and how it can be used to help the public in different areas.

Detailed Project Description

Through this Project we hope to explain in a simple way how this technology works, due to its importance, since SAR measurements can help our community with various environmental problems. We hope with this to provide a simple way to understand the operation of this technology for anyone regardless of their age or work area and for this, we use the following tools: Canva and Wondershare Filmora for video editing, google drive and Microsoft teams for teamwork, edit and research the information necessary for the development of our project.

Space Agency Data

We used various NASA resources to develop and edit the video, as well as to complement the information necessary for our research, these were:Volcanoes: NISAR's Portal into Earth's Interior, NISAR Imaging Animation, Global Biomass Mapping by NISAR and NISAR: Watching the Earth Move Under Our Feet. All the multimedia material we use can be found at nisar.jpl.nasa.gov. Also, we use other resources for our research like the NASA-ISRO SAR (NISAR) Mission Science Users' Handbook, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR): For Forest Structure), What is Synthetic Aperture Radar?, NISAR: Watching the Earth Move Under Our Feet (NASA-ISRO mission video), Synthetic Aperture Radar Land Applications Tutorial and Access to Copernicus Sentinel data via download or cloud services.

Hackathon Journey

Our experience was very rewarding, interesting, and challenging. We learned many new concepts that we did not know, not only in the area in which the project we chose was based, but also in the other projects in the different areas. We chose this challenge because it seemed interesting to us to know more about the use of satellites for taking images worldwide, it is an attractive experience for us, with a good use many benefits can be obtained. Our focus was Educational, since many people find it difficult to understand this technology.

We solved our problems and setbacks with absolute dedication, team unity and a lot of participation of the members, the most tedious tasks were taken by more than one person according to their level of complexity, managing to finish them as soon as possible and if someone had problems, received the necessary help to complete the activity. We want to thank first of all thanks to God and to the Organizers for allowing us to be in the competition, to Manuel's mother for being our exclusive reader and to our great team for managing to finish the project.
